Smart Doh: A review – more than just play dough
By Jenny from www.midwifeandlife.com
We were sent a new type of play dough to try out and review, it’s called Smart Doh, and it is play dough with a twist – they combine creative fun with play, colour and aroma therapy, using ingredients that are natural, vegan and non-toxic. They use 100% pure coconut oil which has the added bonus of moisturising their hands during play time. It’s also free of artificial preservatives and chemicals.
Smart Doh have their original smart doh, and their aroma smart doh, which has been infused with the finest essential oils to enhance your child’s playtime with wonderful aromas and provide them with a whole new sensory experience.
We were sent a lovely box of pink sparkly original smart doh, a lavender infused doh to calm, a mint infused doh to alert, a plain yellow doh, cutters, a textured rolling pin and a grocery themed play mat.
The Smart Doh comes in plastic tubs with screw top lids that are full to the brim with the doh. They look like adult cosmetics and smelled divine. Phoebe is the creative one in our house and she loved them! I was a bit concerned, as previous dough experiences have resulted in them all becoming mixed together and ending up a sludge green colour or being left to dry out. Either she’s got older and more appreciative of her things or she could tell they were something special because she was very careful with them and put them back in the correct jars – wonders will never cease. I let Daniel have a play and a squish, but he likes to throw and a few throws of smart doh was enough!
What we liked
The smell is amazing – when they were playing with the calm lavender dough it filled the air and I felt the effects myself, forget about the kids! Even the non infused dough smells nice. The texture is lovely and soft and it still moulds well for play. We tested out the cutters and rolling pin, we loved the spotty rolling pin and how it changed the texture of the dough.
I think they’d make a lovely gift set for a first birthday or any occasion for young children. Even when we’d finished playing and tidied it all away the smell still lingered in the air – no need for air freshener! The Smart Doh company sell all the accessories too, with different mats and cutters available. The owner is a mum of two young children who was inspired by her children’s love of play dough, but wanted an alternative to the store bought chemical filled versions, she hand makes all the dough herself. You can buy the smart doh from their website, follow them on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram for special offers, competitions and updates.
Disclosure: we were gifted the smartdoh in return for my open and honest review – all opinions are my own.
